No Thank You

My second foray in the music industry (the first being the CD art for The O.C. Mix 4) was with Capitol Records. I was contracted to design cartoon versions of an up and coming band named The Redwalls. My work was so well received that when Nickelodeon saw the designs, they convinced Capitol to finance an animated music video for the single, “Thank You.”

Ecstatic about the news, I immediately began prepping to direct the music video. I wrote two concept proposals, saw the band perform live and met up with some of the guys afterwards. I even studied hours of behind the scenes footage to ensure no detail was lost. So you can imagine my disappointment when Nickelodeon decided they wanted to cut me out of the process and grossly underbid me to get the job. They didn’t even offer me a chance to storyboard or design any additional characters.

So how did it all turn out in the end? Let’s just say there’s a reason why you can’t find it on the band's website.

Nickelodeon's loss, my friend. I bet they're probably kicking themselves, though. Awesome character designs!
